Technical Lead / Principal Backend Engineer (Java and SpringBoot)

An international cybersecurity and telco security firm is hiring a Technical Lead / Principal Backend Engineer to lead the architecture and development of its real-time backend platform. The role combines leadership with hands-on coding and is based in Budapest with a hybrid model (2–3 days onsite).

Description

You will define and evolve backend architecture, implement high-throughput APIs, and lead a small senior team. The role covers microservices, messaging / streaming, and secure service-to-service communication. You will balance delivery with technical debt management, mentor fellow engineers, and stay actively engaged in coding (around 70%).

Requirements

• 8+ years in backend engineering; 2+ years in a tech-lead / principal role
• Expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3 (WebFlux, Data, Security)
• Strong database experience (Postgres, schema design, query tuning)
• Messaging / event streaming (MQTT, Kafka, NATS, RabbitMQ)
• Kubernetes / Docker production experience
• Strong command of written and spoken English
• Nice to have : TimescaleDB or Node.js experience.
