As a Software Engineering Team Lead (Data Enrichment, Backend Team), you will lead a team of backend engineers responsible for building, scaling, and modernizing SEON’s data collection systems. You will play a key role in driving the continuous design and development while managing team performance, mentoring engineers, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery. Your responsibilities will span technical leadership, delivery ownership, and close collaboration with Product Management and Engineering Management to support the team’s growth and effectiveness.
This role reports into the Engineering Manager of Data Enrichment.
This role offers flexibility and is based in our Budapest office with a hybrid schedule of being in the office approximately three days per week.
What You'll Do :
- Lead, coach, and support a team of backend engineers working on SEON’s Data Enrichment services.
- Provide regular feedback, mentorship, and career development support to team members in close collaboration with the Engineering Manager.
- Set clear expectations, align team priorities, and foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Facilitate onboarding, knowledge sharing, and skills development within the team.
- Guide the team in designing and building scalable, resilient backend systems using Java and Spring framework.
- Lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and technology evaluations.
- Encourage and enforce best practices around code quality, testing, performance, and security.
- Ensure reliable delivery of features, improvements, and technical initiatives aligned with roadmap goals.
- Coordinate planning, backlog grooming, and definition of done in collaboration with Product Managers and the Engineering Manager.
- Identify and mitigate risks or blockers that affect delivery timelines or team velocity.
- Track engineering KPIs and proactively address areas for improvement.
- Serve as the team’s primary technical representative in cross-functional planning and prioritization.
- Partner with Product Management to clarify requirements, scope initiatives, and align on priorities.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to resolve dependencies and share architectural vision.
- Ensure clear, open, and structured communication within and beyond the team.
- Ensure the team’s systems are well-instrumented, observable, and supported by alerting and diagnostics.
- Lead and coordinate responses to production issues and post-incident reviews.
- Drive efforts to improve system reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
What You Bring :
5+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years in a technical or team leadership role.Strong expertise in Java (preferably Java 17+) and Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, etc.).Proven experience delivering scalable, production-grade backend systems and APIs.Solid understanding of distributed systems, performance optimization, and microservices.Familiarity with SQL / NoSQL databases, CI / CD pipelines, and containerized environments.Strong communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic leadership style and fluency in English (written and spoken).Amazing if You Also Have :
Working knowledge of Python 3.9+ or openness to learning it for legacy system understanding.Experience with web crawling, scraping systems, or data ingestion pipelines.Familiarity with monitoring tools, distributed tracing, and AWS / Kubernetes infrastructure.Experience leading teams through large-scale refactoring, platform migrations, or tech transformations.
