The opportunity

Join our fast-growing IDT team as a Tax Associate in Hungary and you will have the opportunity to start a career in the field of Taxation, learn and develop and work with your team mates on EY’s largest multi-country client engagements. We deploy strong multi-skilled teams working seamlessly across countries and service lines, with major hubs in UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Romania and Hungary.

Your key responsibilities

As a Tax Associate, you will be working with a selection of clients where you are assisting a Senior Consultant colleague with regards to VAT / GST compliance outsourced to EY, including :

Act as central point of contact – liaise with your international colleagues with respect to European VAT compliance
Monitoring the quality / data receipt of the indirect tax data and reports of your clients; ensuring that data gaps are communicated to client in due time
Prepare indirect tax returns
Follow up on legislative changes and business changes in order to ensure that the systems and / or processes are updated – this includes liaising with technology team
Identify issues and opportunities to continuously improve the VAT compliance processes
Coordinate with other Seniors / VAT controllers and report to the client’s Process Owner at EY (senior manager or above)
Actively participate to the training and coaching session in your development plan to ensure continuous development of your technical knowledge

Qualifications and experience

A Bachelor / Master’s degree in Economics or Finance / Accounting

Preferably 1 year of working experience or internship finance / accounting / compliance, either in industry or with other service providers.

Basic understanding of IT-systems

Good knowledge of Microsoft office applications

Fluent in English – written and spoken

Intermediate level in German, both written and spoken

Any additional European language is an asset

Additional skills and attributes for success

Basic understanding of tax and / or financial compliance activities

Unfailing desire to learn and develop into the role

Curiosity and innovation & problem-solving focus

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Excellent communication across cultures and within a virtual working environment

Highly motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a tea

Ability to plan and prioritize work
