Job description

Our client is a leading provider of sustainable biorefining solutions, specializing in soil nutrition, animal nutrition, human nutrition, ethanol, and biogas. They are looking to recruit a Process Engineer who will be responsible for technology selection, process design, equipment sizing, and process integration for industrial projects. The successful candidate must be fluent in English.

Key Responsibilities :

Technology Selection & Process Engineering :

  • Lead the evaluation and selection of process technologies, ensuring alignment with operational and business objectives.
  • Develop mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for new and modified processes.
  • Define process control strategies in collaboration with the process controls and automation teams.
  • Ensure that process designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal guidelines.

Equipment Sizing & Supplier Management :

  • Specify and size key process equipment (heat exchangers, reactors, distillation columns, separators, pumps, etc.).
  • Work closely with technical suppliers, reviewing proposals, ensuring compliance with process requirements, and supporting procurement decisions.
  • Conduct technical due diligence on new technologies, benchmarking performance and reliability.
  • Process Control Support :

  • Provide process expertise to the Process Control and Automation team, developing process descriptions and functional design specifications (FDS), and supporting control and alarm rationalisation activities.
  • Project Engineering & Construction Support :

  • Provide technical oversight during project execution, supporting construction teams with process-related queries and ensuring alignment with the design intent.
  • Collaborate with project delivery and site teams to ensure smooth installation, integration, and commissioning of new process systems.
  • Support HAZOP, risk assessments, and safety studies for new process installations.
  • Commissioning & Start-Up Support :

  • Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities, ensuring process systems perform as designed.
  • Develop and execute process validation plans, ensuring that plant performance aligns with technical KPIs from business cases.
  • Troubleshoot process deviations and optimize start-up procedures to achieve stable operation quickly.
  • Training & Handover to Operations :

  • Prepare detailed process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials for new process systems.
  • Train operators and maintenance teams on new technologies, process controls, and operational best practices.
  • Operational Excellence :

  • Identify operational deficiencies and improvement opportunities through data analysis, process audits, and direct interaction with production teams.
  • Develop and implement solutions to address inefficiencies, reduce bottlenecks, enhance process stability, and improve overall performance.
  • Collaborate with the Operational Excellence team to integrate best practices and drive continuous improvement across all process systems.
  • Monitor process performance, analysing key metrics and KPIs to identify areas for enhancement, ensuring that operational issues are proactively addressed.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized procedures for ongoing process improvement, ensuring consistency in operations across the organization.
  • Manufacturing Technical Support :

  • Provide ongoing technical support to production teams to ensure long-term process stability.
  • Receiving and managing Change Requests from manufacturing, either initiating a project.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, brewing, food & beverage processing, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in process engineering, industrial technology, or project execution in the biorefinery, food & beverage, chemicals, or related industries.
  • Proficiency in process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, MATLAB) and statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, Python, Seeq).
  • Experience in commissioning, start-up, and validation for industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of process standards & regulations (e.g., ASME, GMP, PED, ATEX, etc.).
  • Lean manufacturing and Six-Sigma qualifications are desirable.
